  1. Island Girl

From the recording Island Girl

This is my story.  Being an isolated, self-made person isn't all it's cracked up to be - sometimes it borders on madness and emotional illness.   Glad I'm off the island.

Lyrics

ISLAND GIRL

Oh, she’s malnourished, more than a little suspicious
Living on a desert isle, lost her luster, lost her smile
She won’t be rescued, she never sends up flares
Lives on roots and native fare
She knows how to live without; She knows how to live without

          She’s an island, island girl
          She’s an i-i-i-i-i-is-land, island girl

Sometimes at night I hear her wailing
But she’ll deny her own travailing
She loops and circles through the clutter, as she mutters
As she analyzes, she’s paralyzed
She’s gotta work it out, can’t work it out, gotta work it out

          She’s an island, island girl
          She’s an i-i-i-i-i-is-land, island girl

Sometimes she sails with a sailor boy
Who steers her right into a storm
Floating on wreckage back to a lonely place
Where she hides in caves, gathers wood
Lives on nothing ‘cause she knows she could, she knows she could

I hear her calling from a faraway land
Water is filling up my eyes
Then recedes just before falling down

‘Cause I’m an island, island girl
          I’m an i-i-i-i-i-is-land, island girl

Oh island girl, light the flair
Raise the flag, take the wheel
Find your voice
Beat the drums, light the torch
Dance  your dance, come ashore
There is more
There is more
